Hope
You’d say hope is a word
That put your hallucination to rest.
You’d say hope is a word
That makes all the difference.
You’d say hope is the green in the oh-so-concrete world
And I’d see the cool breeze heralding the rain
When the heat had set everything ablaze.
Neither IMD nor I thought that there’d be such early respite from nature’s fury
But your hope got us there.
You’d say goodbye to polythene
Embrace paper and cloth
Hoping the menace would end
Someday, too soon.
I never believed that’ll help
A dot in a billion
But then the weather got pleasant
And there was water for all
And that’s when I realized
Maybe hope is not a bad word after all.
